Foreign Currency – America’s Credit Crunch

The foreign currency exchange rates can spell good or bad news depending on which side of the Atlantic you’re on.

For America, foreign currency exchange rates are in a sorry state. The dollar it seems just keeps on plummeting. The Federal Reserve – America's central bank – has slashed interest rates to try and prevent the limping US economy falling into a full blown recession.  Previously inflation had risen in an attempt to dampen down over-inflated property prices and consumer spending, but the recent move by the Federal Bank gave a much needed boost for Wall Street.

Foreign Currency – The American Dollar

But on the foreign currency exchange markets, the dollar fell again - this time to an all time record low. If you're using a specialist foreign currency company, such as Foreign Currency Exchange Ltd, now might be a good time to buy US dollars while the foreign currency exchange rate is so favourable. It's a gamble, but if a recession is avoided, the dollar will rise again and your investment will go further.

Foreign Currency Rates Fluctuate

Foreign currency rates always fluctuate depending on the economic climate of the countries involved. The move by the Federal Bank was, they told the press: "intended to help forestall some of the adverse effects on the broader economy that might otherwise arise from the disruptions in financial markets and to promote moderate growth over time."

Concerns over Dollar

There are however concerns that foreign currency exchange rates could continue to dip for the dollar as there are fears the downturn in the US housing market could spread to the rest of the American economy. The move by the Federal Bank has divided opinion. Some fear it will rekindle inflation – making it harder on the foreign currency exchange rates and more difficult to attract foreign capital.

Property Crisis could Spark Recession

The bottom line is it's going to be a difficult time for the American economy which is suffering from years of debt and over borrowing and too much consumer spending – some see a recession as inevitable and even necessary as property prices across the States continue to collapse. If you're looking at the foreign currency exchange rates, the dollar has never been so weak against the pound and the Euro.
